2 dead in Marion County following plane crash in wooded area, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Marion County deputies are investigating a fatal plane crash in a remote area that killed two people.

The crash happened late Saturday in a heavily wooded area between Citra and Orange Springs.

Deputies said a small, private aircraft crashed, killing both occupants.

Rescue personnel from Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene along with deputies.

According to a news release, detectives are continuing their investigation, along with the help of the MCSO Field Force.

The FAA has been notified and is expected to respond to investigate the crash as well.
