ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 has learned a dozen restaurants on the University of Central Florida campus have failed health inspections over the past year, some of them failing inspections multiple times.
Officials admitted to WFTV's Kenneth Craig it's a big problem and changes are being made.
In the past year, 12 of the 35 campus restaurants were slammed with unsatisfactory inspections by health officials.
"They can't just continue on that way," said sophomore Addie Ritter.
Among those restaurants was Jimmy Johns, which had marks for problems with food containers and temperatures.
At the Kyoto, inspectors said they found raw chicken dripping onto other food, and the Marketplace dining hall fell below standards, the reports say.
"It certainly does not meet our expectations or the expectations of our students and our parents, and we expect better," said UCF spokesman Chad Binette.
A manager at Burger U was quick to defend the restaurant, telling Channel 9 they've made all of the required changes.
"So you're so confident? You'd invite any of your guests in here?" asked Craig, who was taken into the kitchen to see for himself.
"Yeah, oh yeah," said manager Andrew Jones. "Anytime."
UCF officials said all of the restaurants and even the dining halls are privately run, but since the inspections, they've made changes.
Staff members are now going with health inspectors on visits.
UCF is also looking at how they can enforce heath standards as part of their contracts with individual restaurants.
