1 man dead, another hospitalized after head-on collision in DeLand, troopers say

DELAND, Fla. — A man is dead and another is injured after their cars crashed head-on into each other in DeLand Sunday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred on Woodland Boulevard at Mercers Fernery Road around 2 p.m., troopers said.

The crash blocked all northbound lanes of Woodland Boulevard.

According to troopers, a 38-year-old man was driving a 2004 Chevy Impala the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Woodland Boulevard when he crashed into a 2017 Nissan SUV. driven by 50-year-old Gavin Dickinson of the United Kingdom.

The 38-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Troopers have not released the driver's identity because they have not yet notified next of kin.

Dickinson was transported to Halifax Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation.
