1 dead after car crashes into river in Altamonte Springs

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — An early morning crash claimed the life of one person in Altamonte Springs Tuesday.

Seminole County Fire Rescue crews responded to the area of State Road 436 and Orange Avenue around 4:15 a.m.

At the scene, they found a car partially submerged in the Little Wekiva River.

SCFD said that the vehicle appears to have overturned before coming to rest in the water.

Rescue crews pulled one person from the driver’s seat, but that person did not survive, according to SCFD.

Channel 9 has been at the scene since around 5 a.m.

Drone 9 continues to monitor traffic impacts in the area and confirmed that both Eastbound SR 436 and Orange Avenue reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

A section of Orange Avenue was also shut down.

It’s not clear what led to the crash; Altamonte Springs police will conduct a crash investigation.
