PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. — MedFast Urgent Care Centers will open a new location inside Port St. John's largest outpatient healthcare center—Parrish Healthcare Center, located on Port St. John Parkway. The new $1.1 million urgent care center addition will be completed by summer 2010.
"Parrish Medical Center made the largest healthcare investment in the history of the Port St. John-North Cocoa-Canaveral Groves communities when we constructed the state's first silver LEED-certified green and medically advanced outpatient healthcare center in 2007," said J.J. Parrish III, chairman of the Parrish Medical Center board of directors.
"The addition of the MedFast Urgent Care Center marks another milestone in the growth of Port St. John and surrounding communities and in the level of healthcare services those communities receive," Parrish said.
The MedFast Urgent Care Center at Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John will provide the community with its first comprehensive, multidisciplinary emergent care facility, featuring emergency room-experienced physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, along with a full complement of advanced treatment and diagnostic imaging services (from labs and x-rays to MRI, CT and more) in one convenient location.
Because it will be staffed by MedFast emergency room-experienced physicians, the center will offer much more than traditional urgent care services. The new center will treat all types of emergent or urgent illnesses or injuries such as fractures, cuts that need stitches, sprains, asthma/bronchitis/sinusitis, as well as treat abdominal pain, respiratory infections, pelvic pain, headache, infections, influenza, and sports and other injuries. In addition, the center will offer occupational medicine/workers comp and corporate health services, physicals, and vaccinations.
Maureen Rupe, a Port St. John resident and Parrish Medical Center board member, also serves on the advisory committee of Port St. John and Canaveral Groves residents. She said that community involvement has been an important factor in the decision to open an urgent care center to serve Port St. John, Canaveral Groves and north Cocoa.
"From the beginning, the citizens of Port St. John, Canaveral Groves and north Cocoa have helped guide the programs and services — and even the design — of their healthcare center," said Rupe. "Through surveys, focus groups and the work of the Port St. John citizen advisory group, the people who live in these communities have made important contributions to the healthcare center's progress and success. Convenient access to primary and urgent care was high on the priority list for residents: Parrish Medical Center listened and brought both to the community."

Among services available now at the Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John are advanced digital diagnostic technology (digital mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound); full-time primary care physician specialists; laboratory services; a sleep disorder center; physical therapy; diabetes education; wound care; occupational therapy; stress testing and other heart-related services.
