Seminole County Public School leaders create four task forces for reopening schools

Seminole County Public School leaders have created four task forces that will look at reopening, visioning, project management and marketing but will focus on the physical and emotional well-being of the students and staff.

“We have plans A, B, C and D. We don’t think school will ever look exactly the same as it looked in February and March," said superintendent Walt Griffin.

Gov. Ron DeSantis extends foreclosure, eviction relief

Gov. Ron DeSantis has issues an order that extends foreclosure and eviction relief. The order is now in effect until 12:01 a.m. on June 2.

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has donated 15,000 pounds of food to pets during pandemic

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has donated 15,000 pounds of food to owners and pets in need during a distribution event on May 1.

The pantry has been giving away food for nearly 100 animals each week to aid during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Miami-Dade, Broward counties to move into Phase 1 reopen plan

Miami-Dade and Broward counties will now move into the Phase 1 reopening plan, Gov. DeSantis announced Thursday. The decision was met with applause by some who attended the governor’s briefing.

The South Florida counties were among the hardest hit in the state from the coronavirus pandemic.

The governor cited the counties’ lowering of cases as reasoning to reopen.

Palm Beach County, another South Florida county that was hit hard by COVID-19, entered Phase 1 on Monday.

Gov. DeSantis to provide update on coronavirus in Florida

Gov. Ron DeSantis is set to hold a press conference regarding COVID-19 in Florida.

The governor will have the briefing from Doral at 12 p.m.

11:15 a.m. update

Florida reports 48 COVID-19 deaths, 808 new cases

Florida health officials reported 48 new COVID-19 deaths and 808 new cases of the virus on Thursday.

Two of those deaths were in Central Florida, with one each in Sumter and Polk counties.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the numbers also show an uptick of 24 cases in Orange County. On Wednesday, Orange County had 16 more cases than Tuesday, but on Tuesday the number was only up by seven.

Dr. Raul Pino told Channel 9 that he’ll become concerned only after seeing three or more days of rising numbers. Click here to read more.

Volusia and Polk counties both also saw a double-digit jump in cases according to Thursday’s case numbers.

Seminole County officials to give coronavirus update

Seminole County officials will hold a briefing at 2 p.m. in regards to the county’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are currently 426 confirmed cases of the coronavirus within the county.

8:04 a.m. update

Deltona mayor to hold COVID-19 briefing

Deltona Mayor Heidi Herzberg will conduct a 3:00 p.m. press conference to provide updates regarding the city’s actions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

5:57 a.m. update

Central Florida YMCA locations to distribute food to those in need

The YMCA will be offering free food at several locations around Central Florida to help those in need amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Food will be distributed at the Frank DeLuca YMCA, Golden Triangle YMCA and Roper YMCA from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Each location will distribute 200 meals comprising of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other household items. All items will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

4:36 a.m. update

CityWalk to reopen under limited operations

Universal Orlando’s CityWalk is set to partially reopen later today under limited operations.

Select venues will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Restaurants that are reopening will have a limited menu.

The theme parks will remain closed, as will the nightclubs and movie theater.

Face coverings and temperature checks will be required. Floor markings will be placed on the floor to ensure guests are staying six feet apart.

Self-parking will be complimentary as valet parking is no longer available.
