ORLANDO, Fla. — Gas prices are still soaring across Florida and the impact is expected to stick around for a while.
The average price of a gallon of gas in Florida is $4.32, which is down about a penny since Monday and is one cent higher than the national average.

Automotive expert Lauren Fix from Car Coach Reports said gas prices will remain high like this for a while.
To save money at the pump, Fix recommends removing items from your trunk, as traveling lightly requires less fuel.

“Every extra element you’re hauling, you’re using energy to propel that in your vehicle. Also, check your tire pressure,” she said.
Keeping an eye on your tire pressure, she said, can save you 2 to 3 miles to the gallon.
Fix also recommends skipping the drive-thru and if you’re in park, turn the car off.

“It would save you tons of money, rather than just sitting at zero miles to the gallon,” she said.
Fix said driving with the air conditioning off and windows down won’t save you a few bucks.
“The more drag, like your arm sitting out the window or the windows are down, you’re making it more difficult to propel that, so you’re using more fuel,” she said.

There are apps available, such as Gas Buddy, where you can shop around for the best prices in town.
Until gas prices go down, drivers like Rhonda Leggins are changing their routine.
“Because of gas prices, I try to knock everything out on that day,” Legging said. “And as far as taking a ride here or doing this because of the gas prices, I just go home.”

Leggins said she, like many, are hoping gas prices go down soon.
“Although the pandemic is kind of moving away, the gas prices got us hostage as well,” she said.
