GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida High School Athletic Association has postponed the start of fall sports from Aug. 17 to Aug. 24.
The board approved the move in an 11-4 vote. The decision came Thursday second emergency meeting to consider recommendations for high school sports in the fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board must now reconvene on Aug. 17 to decide whether or not to still move forward with the new date.

The initial motion to resume sports on Aug. 14, and practices as early as July 27, reflected a recommendation from the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, which would require schools to meet three requirements including the county staying under 5% average positivity rate.
However, that would leave all counties starting at widely different times.
