Police: Man surrenders after fatally shooting ex-girlfriend, 23, in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Police said a 23-year-old woman was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend on Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the area of University Boulevard and Colbert Circle in Melbourne just after 8 a.m. for a reported shooting.

First responders said they provided life-saving efforts to Sha’dayla Johnson when they arrived, but she died from her injuries.

Officers said Carlos Jones, 23, was charged with premeditated first-degree murder in relation to Johnson’s death.

Police said he was Johnson’s ex-boyfriend.

They said Jones turned himself in to Palm Bay police at about 10:30 a.m.

Johnson’s relatives told Channel 9 that she was shot in the back several times.

They said she was a college student who had returned home to live with her father and was a mother herself.
