SEE: Strong winds from Sunday’s severe storms damage Central Florida homes

COCOA, Fla. — Severe storms moving across Central Florida have damaged homes and triggered a tornado warning on Sunday.

A tornado warning was issued just before 4 p.m. in Flagler County as severe thunderstorm warnings were being issued across Central Florida.

Residents in the Cocoa Bay mobile home community said the sky got dark and the storms rolled through at around 2 p.m.

Several homes were damaged by strong winds in the area.

Parts of one home were also ripped off by the winds and now the location has been deemed unsafe by officials.

Parts of the fence from the house next door also fell over.

Once the skies cleared, residents were out checking on their neighbors and helping to clean up the storm damage.

“Strong wind, whole house shook. See trees flying everywhere,” said resident Cheryl Boyer. “I got dressed and came out and it’s like ‘holy cow, what happened?’”

On its website, Florida Power and Light reported several power outages in Brevard County on Sunday, including in the Cocoa area.

The national weather service in Melbourne issued a severe thunderstorm warning in Brevard County right around the time this storm was coming through.

A tornado watch or warning was not issued for this storm.

Orange County Fire Rescue also reported Sunday that a home in the Winter Garden area was damage after it was struck by lightning Sunday afternoon.

WFTV Meteorologist George Waldenberger has been keeping busy both on air and behind the scenes as Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for several local counties Sunday afternoon.

Waldenberger said there’s a chance that additional warnings could be issued Sunday evening.
