FDLE agent, suspect injured in shooting during drug operation in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent and a suspect were injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Kissimmee.

According to FDLE, around 3 p.m., three agents from their Tampa Bay Regional Operations Center were assisting Orlando agents with a “long-term, multi-jurisdictional” drug investigation.

The agents were in an unmarked vehicle following the suspects on Hoagland Blvd. when FDLE says the suspects started shooting at them.

One agent was injured in the gunfire and is expected to be fine.

The agents returned fire, striking one of the suspects who was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center in critical condition. A second suspect wasn’t injured.

FDLE Special Agent Mark Brutnell says the situation could have been much worse.

“Dealing with some bad people obviously,” Agent Brutnell says. “Narcotics deals are dangerous; we saw that play out today.”

Kissimmee police Chief Jeffrey O’Dell said his department will conduct the shooting investigation for FDLE.
