Boy Scout troop trapped by floodwaters rescued by helicopter

NEW MEXICO — A lesson about survival got very real, very fast when a Boy Scout troop had to be rescued during their camping trip.

Teams had to airlift the scouts out, one by one.

The troop from El Paso was camping in New Mexico earlier this month.

They became trapped when floodwaters blocked their exit.

Bad weather prevented rescue teams from landing a helicopter.

For nearly 17 hours, crews went up and down and brought each kid to safety.

The scouts later returned to their campsite to get all the gear they left behind.

Their scout leader said they all got a firsthand look at wilderness survival.
