Toxic toads: Pet owners share experiences, tips for dealing with toads that can be lethal to dogs, cats

Thousands of people have liked, commented on or shared investigative reporter Christopher Heath’s story about toxic toads that can kills pets in minutes moving into Central Florida.

Central Floridians have shared their own scary experiences involving their dogs encountering the toads as well as tips for telling the toads apart from other amphibians.

Heath said he was surprised by the number of commenters critiquing the FWC-suggested method to humanely kill the toads.

“I'm just astonished at the people who think I came up with the method to kill them ... like ‘best ways to kill amphibians’ is a skill set I have.”

Commenters Lauren Scott, Ronney Prater Walker and Sheila Bray Brodman all wrote in with their own scary experiences with the toxic cane toads.
