Dual COVID-19, flu tests heading to Central Florida

Doctors now have a new tool to answer a question they’re about to hear a lot: “Is it the flu or is it the coronavirus?”

There’s now one test to check for both viruses, and the test will be critical as we move into the flu season.

A handful of companies across the country received FDA emergency use authorization to develop a test that tells a patient what respiratory illness they have. All it takes is one swab, and the answer comes in fast.

At UF Health, doctors have already received one of these tests from a company, and another they ordered is coming soon.

The combo test should be on the hospital floor at UF Health soon. AdventHealth said it is expecting to have the dual test available later this month.
