9 things to do this weekend: Daytona 500, Ice Breaker opens at SeaWorld, Sanford Mardi Gras and more

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are nine things happening in Central Florida.

1. Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 is happening this weekend.

The 500-mile race will take place at the Daytona International Speedway at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

2. Ice Breaker opens at SeaWorld

Get ready to break the ice: SeaWorld’s Ice Breaker coaster is opening this weekend!

The coaster will feature four airtime-filled launches, both backward and forward, culminating in a reverse launch into the steepest beyond-vertical drop in Florida, a 93-foot-tall spike with 100-degree angle, SeaWorld said.

Riders will fly over a near vertical top-hat maneuver into a series of exciting twists, turns and airtime hills.

3. Otronicon at Orlando Science Center

A science festival and tech expo that has brought Central Florida’s brightest minds together to celebrate innovation and lifelong learning for more than a decade returns this weekend.

Otronicon will take place at the Orlando Science Center through Monday.

The four-day event lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $21 for adults, $19 for seniors and students, and $15 for children ages 2 to 11. Click here to purchase tickets.

4. Job fair at Island H2O Water Park

Looking for a job? Island H2O Water Park will be hosting a hiring event this weekend.

The park has more than 250 positions available.

Seasonal positions include lifeguards, guest services, first aid, EMTs, cashiers, cooks, park services (custodial), servers, security and more.

Applicants must be 16 or older.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

5. 87th Annual Bach Festival

The annual Bach Festival continues this weekend.

Organizers said it has been a Central Florida music tradition since it was founded in 1935.

For three weeks in February, the Bach Festival Choir, Orchestra, and guest artists fill Winter Park with choral, orchestral and chamber music.

6. Sanford Mardi Gras

You can let the good times roll in Sanford on Saturday.

The city will host its 8th Annual Sanford Mardi Gras from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event will be held in historic downtown Sanford at 307 East 2nd Street.

7. Orlando Solar Bears vs. Indy Fuel

The Orlando Solar Bears will take on the Indy Fuel at the Amway Center on Saturday.

The game will start at 7 p.m.

8. Dancing With The Stars: Live 2022

If you want a chance to see some of the dancers from ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars,” they will be making a stop at the Dr. Phillips Center this weekend.

The show will feature dance performances from world-renowned dancers, including Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten, Artem Chigvintsev, Sasha Farber, Koko Iwasaki, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Gleb Savchenko, Emma Slater, Britt Stewart and Sofia Ghavami.

There are two shows scheduled, one at 3 p.m. and another at 8 p.m.

9. “Cupid’s Undie Run”

The “Cupid’s Undie Run” is taking place this weekend.

The run starts at noon on Saturday.

The race is the nation’s “largest pantless party and mileish run for charity.”

Cupid’s Undie Run raises awareness of neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body.
