Disney World announces new Genie service, includes Lightning Lane for attractions

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — This fall, Walt Disney World is letting the Genie out of the lamp with a new complimentary digital service designed to create your best Disney day, including a replacement to its now-retired FastPass program.

The Disney Genie service, which will be found inside the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, will have several features to help maximize your park time, Disney said.

“Built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, Disney Genie service will maximize your park time, so you can have more fun,” Disney announced. “It includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. From specific attractions, foodie experiences and entertainment, to general interests like Disney princesses, villains, Pixar, Star Wars, thrill rides and more — just tell Disney Genie what you want to do and it will do the planning for you.”

Other features include itinerary updates, creating your own personal tip board and more.

Also among the features is a new queue option called the Lightning Lane entrance that will save you time in line.

For $15 per ticket per day at Disney World, guests can utilize the Disney Genie+ service. It will allow them to choose the next available time to arrive at several attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance.

Guests can make one selection at a time throughout the day at attractions such as Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Attractions are subject to limited availability, Disney said.

Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories, as well as augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort.

Individual attraction selections will also be available for purchase to utilize the Lightning Lane entrance. Pricing will vary by date, attraction and park, and be announced closer to launch.

Lightning Lane selections can be made on the same day as your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, Disney said.

“While the FASTPASS, FastPass+ and Disney MaxPass services will be retired, we’re incredibly excited about the flexibility and choices Disney Genie service provides,” Disney said. “You can choose from all of our new options, a mix of them or none at all, and continue to have a great experience no matter how you decide to plan your best Disney day.”

Disney also announced it is making enhancements to its Disability Access Service, which includes new options to enroll in the program before arriving, and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app.
