What is Pi Day? Good question.

Let Channel 9 explain with nine things to know about Pi Day:

1) Pi Day is celebrated each year on March 14 because the date is 3/14, which is similar to the number for pi, which is approximately 3.14159 (Confused? Yeah, me too.)

2) In mathematics, pi is the number that is equal to the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter (Now I know I’m confused.)

3) With all this math business aside, Pi Day is also known for pie. Some stores offer Pi Day deals on their pies, and people gather to eat pie. (OK, now I’m hungry.)

4) Pi is represented by the Greek letter “π.” (Kind of looks like a little table you would eat pie on.)

5) Archimedes, the ancient Greek mathematician, is credited by most with being the first to calculate the estimated value of pi. (See you on trivia night!)

6) Pi has been calculated to over 50 trillion digits beyond its decimal point. (Did your math teacher not explain this?)

7) Pi Day was first celebrated in 1988 and has continued to grow in popularity since then. (Well, relatively).

8) Albert Einstein was also born on March 14. (That’s cool!)
