ORLANDO, Fla. — When students head back to class, it’s often a relief to parents; especially those having trouble putting food on the table.

One in 8 Central Floridians is at risk of going to bed hungry tonight.  It’s even worse for children; one in five don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

9 Family Connection has partnered with the Coalition for the Homeless and Second Harvest Food Bank to present Taste! Central Florida, a premier foodie event to benefit both charities with a night of food and drinks at the Orlando World Center Marriott, Friday August 18.

In the eyes of Landy Delossantos, a modest one bedroom apartment represents. For him and his daughter, it’s a vital step towards stability, a fresh start after months of uncertainty.

“It gives you that hope that you’re close to the end,” Landy said.

Facing hardship earlier this year, Landy turned to the Coalition for the Homeless for assistance. Since then, the organization helped secure on-site daycare for his daughter, allowing him to focus on his job. Recently, they transitioned from the family dorms to their own apartment, marking a significant milestone in their journey.

“She loves it. She loves the teachers and daycare. The staff love her. She’s like a star around here,” Delossantos said.

Over the past year, the Coalition for the Homeless has successfully placed 2100 individuals into permanent housing through its programs. However, with the growing demand for shelter comes an equally pressing need for food.

“So many families in our community are just one thing away from needing help, needing help, putting food on the table,” said Dan Samuels, the Director of Philanthropy for Second Harvest.

9 Family Connection has partnered with both organizations to present ‘Taste’ Central Florida, a fundraising event set for this Friday night.

“By attending this event, you’re helping two incredible organizations continue this work to feed our neighbors,” Samuels said.

‘Taste’ Central Florida, a premier foodie event, is organized entirely by volunteers, ensuring that every cent from ticket sales contributes directly to aiding individuals like Landy.

“All I want to do is just show the gratitude, you know,” he said.

Your ticket to Taste! will provide 800 meals to members of our community.  You can find out more information on how to attend by clicking here.
