Amy Hybels joins FOX23 in Tulsa from Washington, DC where she reported for Voice of America as an MMJ and radio show host and producer. She did reports from the White House for WION TV out of India, providing coverage of U.S. headlines including the airlift of Afghan allies out of Kabul in the wake of the Taliban takeover. A native Michigander, Amy covered the Flint water crisis and the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal at Michigan State University as a reporter for WJRT in Flint. Prior to her return to Michigan, Amy sold her car and bought a camera to pursue a life-long dream of living and reporting in the Middle East. She studied Arabic full time for a year in Amman, Jordan, before reporting for the Jordan Times as a freelance journalist. She ended up shooting and reporting on the protests in Jordan at the height of the Arab Spring for CNN International. During her time in Amman, Amy also served as a Media Officer for the King Hussein Foundation, Her Majesty Queen Noor’s non-profit foundation. Amy speaks Arabic and French and enjoys meeting and reporting on issues impacting peoples’ lives from all over the world. Her local news experience includes reporting positions in Nebraska and Missouri, where she enjoyed shooting sports highlights of the Kansas City Chiefs’ games. She earned her undergraduate degree in Communications from Western Michigan University and her master’s degree in Journalism from Regent University in Virginia Beach. During her time in Hampton Roads, she reported for WVEC in Norfolk as a freelancer. That led to a full-time reporting position for Newschannel 8 in Washington, DC where she covered the aftermath of the attack on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia in 2001.
