LONGWOOD, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol tweeted a picture Monday morning showing damage to I-4 at SR 434.
Portions of the highway were broken off in chunks, revealing the soil underneath.
A drainage pipe was also exposed.
WFTV Meteorologist George Waldenberger said it is an example of a washout and the result of the heavy rain the area sustained during Hurricane Irma.
FHP ordered drivers to stay off of the roads in the same tweet, a message Central Florida law enforcement agencies have repeated, as many county curfews remain in effect.
