ORLANDO, Fla. — A gas leak was contained after a rupture shut down I-4 east Friday in Orlando, authorities said. The lanes of I-4 were reopened at about 3:30 p.m.
The Florida Department of Transportation said in a release that during excavation on the east lanes of I-4 near the Turnpike, a 4-inch gas line was hit by I-4 Ultimate construction crews.
“I was already heading down John Young (Parkway) and it was almost backed up to Sand Lake (Road),” said a driver.
FDOT said the contractor, SGL, will conduct an internal investigation.
A representative for the I-4 Ultimate project said it’s to be determined if the contractor will face fines for the gas line rupture.
No injuries were reported.
