ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando City Soccer Club's new stadium hit a milestone Thursday as crews started installing purple seats.
The $155 million stadium will hold more than 25,000 soccer fans. The project broke ground in October 2014.
Channel 9 got a first-hand look inside the stadium.
The project director said over the course of the next eight weeks, the gray stadium will transform into Orlando City purple.
The seats were installed in the 26.2 miles of rail that runs within the stadium.
Officials said 21,000 seats will be installed, and there will also be sections for standing room only.
Project director Jason McFadden said the milestone means a lot for fans.
“The first seat installation really signifies a major event for the fans. Every fan that comes in will see the 21,000 purple seats, and it is really an event that they can gravitate to and grasp. Their new stadium is really becoming a reality,” said McFadden.
The stadium is expected to be completed in March.
“The exterior banners that encase the structure will start to be installed in December. The sod on the pitch will go in in about mid-December. Permanent power will go in before the holiday season,” McFadden said.
The scoreboard will be installed in the next two weeks.
