WATCH: Hillary Clinton speaks publicly for the first time since she conceded the election

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton took the stage at a Children’s Defense Fund event in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night and gave her first speech since her concession speech last week.

“I want to start by congratulating the terrific young people that we are celebrating tonight,” Clinton said.

“I will admit, coming here tonight wasn’t the easiest thing for me. There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to was just to curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again.”

Clinton then touched on the election results.

“I know many of you are deeply disappointed about the results of the election. I am too, more than I could ever express.

“But as I said last week, our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love and about building an America that is hopeful, inclusive and big-hearted.”

Clinton went on to discuss the outcome and people’s reactions.

She wanted to remind everyone that “America is worth it. Our children are worth it. Believe in our country. Fight for our values and never, ever give up.”
