ORLANDO, Fla. — Channel 9's is working to find out what the future will be for Pulse nightclub after owner Barbara Poma said she was not going to sell the property to the city of Orlando.
“I think that's what the struggle was, letting it go, and it's something I could not come to grips with,” said Poma.
Most memorials after a horrific tragedy seem to be done by government entities.
But for now, Poma and her husband will tackle it on their own.
“I think we are going to go forward the same way we have made it this year, so far, which is day by day,” said Poma.
At a Great White concert in 2003, fireworks inside The Station night club in Rhode Island caused a blaze and 100 people were killed.
The land was donated to a foundation. The Station Fire Memorial Foundation was set up and run by some of the survivors and family members.
Also, $2 million was raised and a memorial was designed.
It’s a long process, and after 13 years, the memorial has not opened yet.
But it plans to be in the spring of next year.
Poma could do something similar, but for now, she said she is looking at all her options, and isn't setting time tables on a decision.
Mayor Teresa Jacobs said the community needs to patient.
“I think it's extremely important that we need to be extremely supportive and respectful at whatever decision she makes,” said Jacobs.
The mayor also said that memorial object that were collected from the Pulse site were given to the history center, and she thinks it will remain that way.
