BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Melbourne woman is facing a DUI manslaughter charge after a fatal crash at the Space Coast fair in April.
State troopers wrapped up their months-long investigation.
A blood test confirmed that Dorothy Bowman, 33, was impaired. Troopers said Bowman was exiting the parking area with her children when she struck Terra Martin, 39.
Martin was working as a parking attendant at the Space Coast Fair in Viera when she was killed.
“Troopers completed their investigation in the past week, and the toxicology came back from that driver. She was a .103 so she was over the legal limit,” said Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Bowman turned herself into authorities Thursday and later posted bail.
No one answered her door when Channel 9 stopped by her home.
“She's been absolutely cooperative with the Highway Patrol on this,” said Montes.
According to investigators, on the night of the crash, Martin was wearing a yellow safety jacket and was directing traffic in a coned in area. Troopers said there was low-lighting in the area where Bowman drove over the cones and hit Martin.
“Unfortunately, it's a reminder again of what can go bad if you drink and get behind the wheel. Another decision was made that night, and unfortunately, somebody lost their life, and we'll never know what would have happened had she not been impaired,” Montes said.
If convicted, the punishment for bowman could be enhanced because her children were present in the crash.
