Uber driver found guilty of running red light that led to deadly crash

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A 72-year-old Uber driver involved in a crash that left his passenger dead in December was in court Friday.

Robert Williams was found guilty Friday afternoon. A judge suspended Williams' license and invoked a $1,000 fine.

"Mr. Williams, I am going to find you guilty of the civil infraction," said Judge James Dekleva.

Witnesses testified Friday morning about the events surrounding the crash between Williams and a Seminole County sheriff’s deputy, which left passenger Corey Allicock, 24, dead.

Deputy Scott Sullivan, who was behind the wheel of the cruiser involved in the crash, testified that he was on his way to a domestic disturbance when he and Williams collided.

He admitted he was driving faster than the speed limit and didn’t have his lights or sirens on.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed that Williams ran the red light at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and State Road 434.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said when Williams ran the red light, Sullivan was heading east on State Road 434 on the inside lane.

"I looked to my left, I saw a white light and I was out," Williams testified.

Williams, meanwhile, was going north on Ronald Reagan Boulevard and struck Sullivan’s cruiser in the intersection.

Allicock was killed and Sullivan suffered minor injuries.

The defense attorney told Channel 9's Angela Jacobs that he plans to appeal the ruling.
