ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The man troopers said is the drunken driving suspect from a fatal crash 13 years ago appeared before a judge for the first time Wednesday.
Carey Price was arrested in the Dominican Republic after he was accused of fleeing the country in 2003. He was denied bail by an Orange County judge Wednesday morning.
Troopers said Price was drunk when he slammed into three construction workers along State Road 417. Paul Kimbro and Charles Starrett, two of the workers were critically injured and the third, Grady Hill, died.
Price was arrested and released from jail on bail before he disappeared.
Kimbro, one of the workers that was critically injured in the crash, was present at Price's hearing.
"I loved that, that he didn't have (a bond). That I loved," Kimbro said.
This month, a tipster said Price told him about the crash at a bar in the Dominican Republic. Price was arrested by Dominican officials and transported back to the United States.
Price was transported back to Central Florida Tuesday night. He was appointed a public defender, but there was a discussion that he might hire an attorney.
"That makes me feel happy because they finally caught him after 13 years because," Kimbro said. "He's been out there having fun and I haven't been able to have (anything)."
Hill's family also attended Wednesday's hearing.
