Sanford police release surveillance video of drive-by shooting that injured teen

Sanford police are turning to the public in hopes of finding the people involved in a drive-by shooting that injured a 16-year-old boy.
Investigators believe there are people out there that know who fired into the home near State Road 417 and Lake Mary Boulevard Sunday night, but so far, no one has come forward with any information.
Surveillance video obtained by Eyewitness News shows a car slowly driving by at 11:55 p.m. on Little Fox Avenue.
A second car then pulls up, stops for 15 seconds and takes off.
Police said someone in the second car fired a half-dozen rounds into the home, with one of the bullets striking Merrill in the head as he slept in his bedroom.

“Unfortunately, there wasn’t a very good depiction of the vehicle that had driven in front of the house at the time of the shooting,” said Bianca Gillett of the Sanford Police Department.
Police don’t know why the home was targeted or whom the bullets were meant for.
“We know somebody out there knows why this home was targeted and could provide that information to investigators that could get some closure and justice for the victim,” said Gillett.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
