People who live in the Sealey Apartments, in Altamonte Springs, told Eyewitness News their apartments are full of mold and mildew. They say what’s even worse is the landlord told them to fix the problem themselves.
A resident showed Eyewitness News one of the ceilings at the apartment collapsed overnight Thursday from all the mold and rain.
Residents said they pay a little more than $600 a month in rent, but the rent is about to go up, and they said they should not be paying to live in the dangerous conditions.
Eyewitness News went to the apartment complex and spotted at least three apartments with what appeared to be mold, and mildew covered on furniture and clothes.
“It has caused water damage, it has caused moisture to be in the living room in the floor,” said resident Mamie Shelton.
The landlord told Eyewitness News he’s given residents sealer and spray to treat the mold issue.
Crews were out Thursday afternoon making repairs to the ceiling that had collapsed.
However, residents said without properly cleaning the mold from the building, they worry about their long term health.
“It has taken over my furniture, it has taken over my clothes, it is all in the air,” said Shelton.
Eyewitness News contacted the City of Altamonte Springs and the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and did not find any violations in the past year.
