LEESBURG, Fla. — A 26-year-old man was fatally shot in Leesburg early Saturday, police said.

Police said they found Vontay Silas-Pruitt with several gunshot wounds to the chest around 12:17 a.m. in the middle of the road near the intersection of Washington and East Street

The officers performed first aid on Silas-Pruitt until Lake Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and transported him to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

Police had been called to the intersection for reports of shots fired in the area.

Detectives immediately began investigating, then returned in the morning to further canvass the neighborhood and observe the scene during daylight hours, police said.
Police did not say if they have any suspect information or if they are searching for the shooter.
