A man in his 20s was shot in the torso early Thursday in the elevator of a downtown parking garage at the 55 West apartments, the Orlando Police Department said.
Ted Marrero uses the garage during the day and said he's never surprised to hear about downtown violence.
“There's a lot of drunk people at 2 a.m. I wouldn't be here at 2a.m.,” said Marrero. “i've been practicing law down here for 30 years, (and) it seems like we have shootings every few months over one thing or another. I'd have to look at the numbers, but it doesn't feel like it’s any worse.”
Bicycle officers heard gunfire shortly after 2:15 a.m. and saw a vehicle leave a parking garage and crash outside the University of Central Florida's Ying Academic Center on West Pine Street, Orlando police Lt. Robert Bear said.
"The driver of the vehicle that crashed was found to have a gunshot wound to the upper torso," Bear said. "Officers soon located a shooting scene in the elevator of 55 West Church Street."

The injured man, whose identity hasn't been released, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
"The suspect was last seen by security officers and described as a black male wearing black clothing," Bear said. "The suspect is currently at large."
An indention could be seen in one of the walls of an elevator in the city-owned parking garage.
A city worker who was cleaning that elevator Thursday told Channel 9 that he believes the shooting happened on the parking garage's third floor.
Firefighters stationed at the Orlando Fire Department's Station 1 park on the third floor. Residents of the 55 West apartments also park in the garage.
The shooting remains under investigation.
