The woman told her family a gunman stepped in front of her car, demanded the vehicle and started firing shots, family members said.

"She just got done with surgery, so she's in a lot of pain," a family member who didn't want to be identified told Channel 9's Steve Barrett.

Residents in the area heard the gunfire.

"I heard two loud bangs, then three shots. I for on the floor next to my bed," said a nearby resident who asked not to be identified. "That could have been my child."

Police said a third woman, who was in another car, told investigators that someone carjacked her; she was not hurt.

Investigators describe the gunman, who remains at large, as a black man between the ages of 18 and 20. They said he is armed and dangerous.

The shootings and carjacking remain under investigation.
