VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — It will now cost more to drive and park on Volusia County beaches.
The Volusia County Council approved Thursday raising the daily parking fee from $10 to $20. Two years ago, it cost $5 to park at the beach.
The daily beach fees are projected to bring in $4.1 million this year.
The extra money will pay for clean-up efforts on the beach and new beach ramps, county officials said.
Annual pass for Volusia County residents and non-residents won't be affected.
Critics argue tourists will go to other beaches where it's free.
The new fee goes into effect Jan. 1, officials said.
