Ormond Beach police seek motorist who repeatedly sped toward, stared down children

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Officers wish to identify a motorist who repeatedly sped toward three children and stared them down Friday afternoon after a school bus dropped them off at their bus stop in an Ormond Beach neighborhood, the Ormond Beach Police Department said.

The incident happened at 4 p.m. near Live Oak and South Ridgewood avenues, Ormond Beach police Officer Keith Walker said.

“When they were dropped off at their school bus stop, they observed a black older truck driving recklessly and fast towards their location,” Walker said. “The vehicle then rapidly slowed down, the driver's window rolled down and the driver stared at them as he drove past them.”

Walker said the motorist then pulled into a driveway and made a U-turn.

“The vehicle then sped up towards their location a second time, then slowed down and drove past their location with the driver staring at them again,” Walker said. “The vehicle then went around the block and came at them a third time but the three students ran into a neighbor's yard for safety.”

The neighbor said the vehicle then sped away and didn’t return.

The motorist was described as a white man in his 40s with very short hair, possibly a buzz cut, and facial stubble. His vehicle is described as a beat up older black pickup truck, possibly a Ford, with no hood.

The truck, which appeared to be spray painted, had oversized tires and a noisy exhaust pipe, Walker said.

Anyone having information about the incident is asked to call Ormond Beach police at 386-248-1774 or 386-677-0731.
