ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando district fire chief who used his city truck and position to make money in a YouTube ad has been suspended.
Danny Wilson could have been demoted or fired but was instead suspended for 72 hours.
The ad promoted Wilson’s product, the Rod Defender, which protects fishing rods.
The city ethics manual states that when it comes to city-owned equipment, including vehicles, “They may not be used for private or personal purposes.”
The department decided the offense warranted a three-day suspension.
The union can still fight the discipline.
Wilson makes at least $100,000 a year and has a city pension after decades of service.
