Sanford pastor accused of watching child porn released from jail on bail

SANFORD, Fla. — A pastor of a historic church in Sanford and former Disney worker was arrested Monday on child pornography charges.

WFTV was at the jail when Rev. Cedric Cuthbert posted bail and was released Thursday morning.

Cuthbert would not comment when asked, "Pastor, what do you have to say about you actions?"

Police said Cuthbert was looking at pornography on a computer at a Disney resort where he worked.

Investigators also said Cuthbert, a pastor at the St. James AME Church in Sanford, wrote his sermons on the same computer.

Cuthbert, 49, faced a judge on the charges of soliciting a child for unlawful sexual conduct and possession of a sexual performance by a child.

He used to work at Disney World's Port Orleans Resort as a housekeeping manager for more than seven years. He has since been fired.

On April 24, Disney's computer software alerted authorities that Cuthbert was allegedly looking at young girls performing sex acts on YouTube and asking them for more material.

Cuthbert wrote an apology letter to his former coworkers at Disney.

Members of the church were floored when the found out he's accused of looking at child porn online.

Neighbor Shirlene Smith was shocked.

"You've got to be kidding. And his wife is a minister, too," Smith said.

Cuthbert's wife, who is an executive minister at the church on Cyprus Street, didn't answer the door.

"He and my husband have had conversations before, but we would have never suspected that and there are children in the neighborhood," Smith said.

Investigators said Cuthbert communicated with underage girls through YouTube, sending messages like, "You are so cute! Keep makin' vids!"

Wednesday night, the pastor's church posted on their Facebook page that they won't tolerate any more negative posts having to do with the incident.

It's unclear if Cuthbert's victims could have stretched to his congregation as well.

A church representative said it will be dealt with, but as of Wednesday the church still listed Cuthbert as senior minister on its website.

WFTV found out the pastor had interaction with kids, not only through his church and job, but also his children's Cub Scouts program.
