Marion County man shoots up heroin during car chase, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Marion County man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a family member’s car, but it was what he was doing inside the car that got him deeper in trouble, deputies said.

Deputies tried arresting John Quincey Stephens on Monday on a felony warrant at a family member’s home in the 700th block of NE 125th Terrace Road in Silver Springs, deputies said.

Stephens stole the family’s vehicle and ran away, deputies said. Stephens later admitted to “taking a shot” of heroin during the pursuit and said he was sorry for what he had done because he was high on drugs, investigators said.

Stephens was arrested after abandoning the stolen vehicle and running away. Deputies found heroin in the car, investigators said.

Stephens was bitten by a K-9 and was taken to a local hospital for his injuries, deputies said. He then was transported to the Marion County Jail, deputies said.

Stephens faces charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, resisting without violence, possession of heroin, and driving while license suspended or revoked, as well as other charges from a previous arrest, deputies said.
