BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man is alive Sunday evening thanks to his best friend.
Deonte Miller told Eyewitness News that the two were driving along Lake Washington Road near McGraw Avenue in Melbourne when their vehicle hit a patch of sand. The car skidded down a mound and flipped into the pond, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Miller, who was the passenger in the car, was able to free himself, but he said his best friend was trapped. Miller said he knew he had to save him.
“(I) put my hands inside the car, trying to find where he was at, and eventually he ended up grabbing an arm and getting pulled out of the car,” Miller said.
When asked if he was a “hero,” Miller said, “I don’t know about that, just a friend.”
