Reward offered to find person who shot, killed black bear in Lake County neighborhood

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — State wildlife officials are searching for the person who shot and killed a black bear in a Lake County neighborhood.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said the bear was found shot dead in a neighborhood in Astor between Armadillo and Bobcat roads.

Officials said it appears that someone shot the bear and left it to die.

Bear advocates Bear Warriors United teamed up with FWC to offer a reward to help investigators track down the person who killed the animal.

“About seven days before this bear was found dead, there were a number of people complaining about bears in that area, getting into the trash and eating acorns in their yard,” said Katrina Shadix, with Bear Warriors United. And then all of a sudden the bear ends up dead."

FWC want you to contact investigators if you know anything about the death of the bear.
