15-year-old bicyclist hit by vehicle while crossing road in Tavares

TAVARES, Fla. — A 15-year-old bicyclist was critically injured Monday morning when the teenager was crossing a road, the Tavares Police Department said.

Police said the crash happened at about 7:15 a.m. at North Duncan Drive and West Main Street.

Investigators said witnesses told them the teenager was crossing the street while traffic had a green light.

Police said the teenager was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital before being flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

They said they closed North Duncan Drive for about an hour so they could investigate the crash, but they have since reopened it.

The crash remains under investigation.
