800 Lake County school employees over age 65 start receiving their COVID-19 vaccines

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — About 800 Lake County School District employees are eligible to receive their first dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

The school district said employees who are 65 and older, all school and district nurses, and any unlicensed assistive personnel, such as medication-trained employees who cover school clinics when nurses are unavailable, will receive the vaccine.

The vaccination event is a partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Lake County and the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, the school district said.

“I think it’s really important all our employees are vaccinated,” Superintendent Diane Kornegay said. “Soon, all of them will have that opportunity. I think it’s important we provide that assurance to parents as they make that decision to send their child back to school because we still have some learning from home. We want them all back as soon as possible.”

The vaccine is free for all eligible school staff members.

The district said those eligible should bring a driver’s license and work ID.
