House fire claims life in Palm Bay, police say

PALM BAY, Fla. — One person has died following an early morning fire in Palm Bay.

Palm Bay firefighters responded to a house in the 1400-block of Higbee Street Thursday after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a someone who lives there.

Police said that person returned home around midnight and reported smoke and flames coming from a bedroom.

The caller, along with a roommate, exited the home safely, according to investigators.

After extinguishing the fire, first responders found someone dead inside of a bedroom, Palm Bay police said.

Investigators haven’t released an identity but believe that person also lived at the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and the city of Palm Bay.

Police said they don’t suspect foul play.
