Grand jury indicts man in 2013 death of Orange County woman

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The State Attorney’s Office announced a grand jury has indicted a man in connection with the killing of an elderly woman in Orange County last year.

Elena Ortega, 83, was found dead in her burned down home in September 2013.

State Attorney Jeff Ashton said a grand jury has indicted Juan Rosario on first-degree murder and arson charges.

Ortega's cause of death was blunt-force trauma to head. Investigators believe the fire was used to cover up her killing.

Channel 9 was there Thursday as Ashton and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings spoke publicly about the decision to indict Rosario.

"We hope the findings of first-degree murder bring the satisfaction to the (victim's family)," Demings said Thursday.

In May, Rosario and another man, Sean Quinn, were named persons of interest in the case.

So far, Quinn has not been charged in connection with Ortega's death.

The charges come as Rosario is serving an 18-year sentence for a violent home invasion.
