ORLANDO, Fla. — After about 50 vehicles were broken into Sunday morning in parking lots and garages outside Florida Hospital Orlando, officials said Monday they would be upping security patrols in the area.
Glass and other debris caused by the break-ins littered the parking lots and garages where dozens of owners found their vehicles damaged and property stolen.
Andrew Hepp found his driver-side window broken out and the back seat of his vehicle ransacked.
The break-in is going to cost him more than just the things that were stolen, he said.
“This is out of my pocket,” Hepp said. “Not the insurance, they don’t pay for side windows.”
Vic Garib parked his truck in the same parking lot as Hepp when he went into work at about 5 a.m. Sunday.
About four hours later, he returned to the truck only to find a smashed window and expensive equipment missing.
“I had a couple bags of change and a brand new jigsaw, a cordless jigsaw,” he said. “That’s all gone.”
In an internal memo, Florida Hospital told employees that it would be increasing security patrols and actively monitoring the video surveillance system.
"We have diverse security measures in place -- some observable, others non-visible," hospital spokeswoman Samantha Kearns O'Lenick said.
The Orlando Police Department has not found any suspects connected to the numerous break-ins.
