Flagler County sheriff to undergo surgery after being hurt in drug house raid

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — The Flagler County sheriff was hurt in a drug house raid.

Sheriff Rick Staly joined members of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit and the SWAT team in April to serve a narcotics search warrant in the Mondex area.

The sheriff’s office said that Staly hyper-extended his left knee during the raid.

He has been under a doctor’s care since. A MRI showed that he suffered a 3mm tear in the meniscal cartilage of his left knee.

Staly will undergo surgery on July 1 to repair the injury.

“As the community knows, I’m not a sheriff that sits behind a desk, and never will be,” Staly said. “Sometimes injuries occur to deputies enforcing the law, even to the Sheriff. This is a minor outpatient procedure with a quick recovery.”

The sheriff’s office said Staly will be under anesthesia for a very brief period.
