FHP: Man thrown from truck, lands under overturned semi on I-95

EDGEWATER, Fla. — An Orange City man was killed early Sunday when he was thrown from his pickup truck and landed under a semitruck on Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jesse Piones, 49, was driving a 2015 Dodge pickup northbound on I-95 near Edgewater when a 2010 Hyundai Sonata went out of control and struck the semitruck, which crashed into the pickup.

Troopers said Piones, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the pickup truck and landed under the semitruck.

Both the semitruck and the pickup overturned, troopers said.

Troopers have not determined what caused the Hyundai driver to lose control.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers said.
