BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Three cows that escaped from their enclosure caused a fatal crash on State Road 40 near Barberville late Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
One car traveling east and another west crashed into the cows, which had wandered out of a nearby fenced enclosure, near the intersection of Seymour Road around 11:50 p.m., troopers said.

After hitting the cows, the car traveling west crashed head-on into the 1996 Lincoln four door driven by Lawrence Allegro, 61, the crash report says.

Allegro was transported to Halifax Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
After the crash, a semitruck entered the crash site and struck one of the cows, troopers said.

All three cows died.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
