FHP: Man dies when car hits light pole, splits in half, crashes into 8 cars near Orlando

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 47-year-old Orlando man died early Monday when his Mercedes hit a light pole -- splitting it in half -- and struck eight vehicles at a used car dealership in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported shortly before 3:15 a.m. at A Plus Auto Mall on East Colonial Drive near Old Cheney Highway, Sgt. Kim Montes said.

It's unknown what caused the driver, whose identity wasn't released, to veer off the road, Montes said.

The driver was killed on impact, officials said.

The road has been cleared, investigators said.

The crash remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
