Driver's blood-alcohol level twice legal limit in fatal Rockledge hit-and-run crash, police say

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged in Rockledge in connection with a Feb. 6 hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist on Barnes Boulevard, police said.

Dylan Pasik is accused of hitting Christopher Holton, 37, as he was riding his bike at about 3 a.m. and then fleeing the scene.

Pasik initially left the scene but was later found by investigators, Rockledge Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Donna Seyferth said.

"Part of the hold-up in all of this, which is not unusual in DUI-type crashes, is awaiting lab results," she said.

According to an arrest report, Pasik's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit and had marijuana and cocaine in his system.

Officers said they were able to track down Pasik to a nearby neighborhood.

“The vehicle was not present at the time of our arrival. Officers were on scene several minutes later,” said Chief Joseph Lasata. “We received a report of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1.”

When officers contacted Pasik, he told officers that, "I was in a bad crash ... I was so scared, so I fled the crash," the police report said.

Holton died at the crash scene, police said.

Pasik has been cooperative with the investigation, but that didn't affect the decision to charge him with DUI manslaughter, Seyferth said.

"It doesn't change what we charge him with," she said. "The crime is the crime, and we charge what fits by statute."

Pasik was also charged with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident.
