Dozens of patients evacuated from Pasco County hospital after fire knocks out power

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: Orange County Fire Rescue will no longer be going to assist Pasco County. Pasco County fire officials said they have enough help to handle the situation.

EARLIER: Orange County Fire Rescue crews have been sent to Pasco County to assist firefighters there after a hospital's power was knocked out due to a fire.

Pasco and Hernando Fire Rescue responded to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point on Fivay Road in Hudson for a report of an electrical fire Wednesday night.

At least 20 patients had to be evacuated. An additional 290 patients inside may need to be evacuated, officials said.

Officials said the fire, which started in the generator room and has since been put out, knocked out power to most of the hospital.

Orange County Fire Rescue will help transport patients.

Forty ambulances responded to the hospital as heavy rain from Tropical Storm Hermine pounded the area.

No other details were released.
